No Arms Friday

I was going to post something about my blown out quad today. Something poetic about pain, sacrifice and perseverance in the eyes of my ultimate frisbee teammates. Something that would have to include ice, heat, and a bathtub. But then I realized nah. It's No Arms Friday. So I can't type. Even a blogger needs a day off. Have a great weekend everyone and pass me something frosty!

Ultimate Frisbee - Rules

I've been asked repeadedly about how to play ultimate frisbee. So to help those of you in an office with a few minutes to kill here's where to go for rules!! Slack Away! Remember I've been keeping productivity down since 2002 with this blog!! I aim to please!!

Love and Peace

I have to tell you first off that I love The Daily Show with John Stewart. He perfectly blends comedy and politic rants with the greatest of ease. Even his book The Daily Show with Jon Stewart Presents America is a great read. But anyway, last night they had former Secretary of State, Colin Powell. On the show Powell spoke very frankly about the war in Iraq and his thoughts on the decision process. While he was still very supportive with Bush he still mentioned the amount of dissent in the Bush camp during that first term. If you missed the show it usually rebroadcasts the next day (today) at 8pm EST.

Cam Neely Makes the Hall UPDATED!!

He was THE premier power forward in the NHL during his career which was cut short by what I'd call the cheapest of shots by Ulf Sammuelsson in the early 90's. A fact that killed the Bruins and eventually led to the trading of one Ray Bourque to another team so he could win a championship. Cam was the quintessential Bruin. Could hit like a train wreck, fast on his skates, and could dance around the most skilled of defenders. My favorite Cam moment was when he dragged a turtled Claude Lemieux from the center ice to the corner boards in order to smash Claude's head into the boards. Pure Neely. Pure Bruin.
Along with the link in the title here's the first article about Cam Neely. And here's Kevin Paul Dupont's column.

This Day in History: Yesterday...

I can't believe it's been one full year (from yesterday, I forgot to post this) since the Tampa Bay Lightening won the Stanley Cup. Since then there has been no hockey unless it was on PS2... One wonders, when and if they drop the puck next year will anyone hear it?

Queer Eye/Red Sox: It's about the kids

Let's face it. There are numerous sports writers who say that there are closeted gays in all four major sports right now. They are there. The country has changed and views have changed on gays in our everyday lives. I mean Ellen Degeneres' show is the top rated day time tallk show. Five gay guys remake poeple to give them more confidence and to, well, look fabulous.
Now the Red Sox show that aired last night. I had this whole rant thought out but as I watched the show it was less about the hairy back of Kevin Millar (who should get an Emmy for his performance) but more about the kids from the area Little League who had lost their ball field during one of the hurricances last year. Not only did the players perform all types of spa treatments but they played a game with the kids and provided them with a check for $100,000 to repair their field. Now I could go into something about all the sponsors that seemed to be located in Red Sox Nation being on the show but they did a great service for those kids who will never be able to get rid of the sight of Carson Kressley with a rhinestone, pink Red Sox jersey out of their mind.

New Release Tuesdays

Coldplay "X & Y". I've listened to most of the album this morning over a pot of coffee and it's sonically their best. Less classic Colplay piano sounds and more rock tempo songs. And their tour this summer...Tickets went on sale last Saturday for the Tweeter Center. I got my tickets. Did you? I have a feeling their tour will be a highlight of the summer months considering everyone is comparing them to U2. Being a slightly huge U2 fan the comparison was inevitable. No one is remotely close to U2 in terms of popularity and worldwide reach. Coldplay is showing the promise as the next arena rock band for the 21st Century.

The White Stripes, "Get Behind Me Satan". Jack and Meg White. The duo that continues to streth rock around their fingers and somehow make it a spectacle. So far listening to the album it will be a good addition to my pre-game ritual for Ultimate Frisbee tonight. On a side note, I'm still trying to figure out Jack White's new circus ringmaster look.

Stripes: Special Edition DVD. During the early pinnacle of Bill Murray's career. Just a brilliant movie with some of the classic lines in movies.

How to age well

Melissa and Lew 2005 Reunion

Trust me if I knew how to age well I would be a very rich man. But it was a topic of conversation. How does everyone look? Are they different or the same? And as far as I could tell we all seem to be doing just fine.

I admit to being a bit on the nervous side on the way to our little reuninon weekend. But that all went away thanks to a good tall cocktail and some food, even though some people didn't think I really ate anything.... Great conversations. Photo moments. Teaching text messaging to Melissa (you'll get it eventually). Cathing up on anything and everything. Kate shockingly knowing the bartender and providing us with more shots and a larger head buzz. Andrea's shirt "issues". A decent cover band. Good dancing. Kimmie's hand in hand walk with Chris. Yes the night had it all. Including the return of their nickname for me, "Sweet Lew". Thankfully only returning for a brief engagement. Then back to Melissa's palacial estates in Mahl-den and a sofa couch with my name written all over it. Yes girls, we ARE a good time.

The hangover Sunday started early. Although I wanted to stay in bed it was a nice 90 degree day outside and Melissa was itchy to head out. So Melissa and I hit Castle Island after getting lost in our own town and her issues with my driving. (Some things never change..) Forgetting to pick up the sandwiches. Taking in some UV's. (I should have sun blocked...) Some double decker planes. One out of control kiter. One hardcore kiter who seemed to like to float it over us. Memory lapses. Was it a hawk or was it a kite? Nope it was a hawk. Returning back to Mahl-den, I was taken to get a delicious meatball sub in an area that was straight out of Goodfellas... Taking a much needed nap cause just 5 hours doesn't cut it anymore... And learning that I'm not following the rules of the nap. No chatting and no staring. I guess if I can't sleep neither can anyone else.

Top it off with a Red Sox victory on the ride home and no traffic. A perfect way to spend a hangover day.

Special thank you shout out to Melissa for the place to crash and a fun weekend in every aspect. And to all the girls and guys from the 'Hill. It was wonderful to see and catch up with everyone. We should do it more often. I'll have more pictures on my Flikr set once they become available/emailed to me. (Thanks to Melissa's 34 exposure digital camera for the opening shot.)
